Award-winning design philosophy at LUNA Residences, Nuanu Bali
LUNA Residences is designed by YODEZEEN, an internationally acclaimed architecture and interior design studio with a portfolio spanning Europe, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia. Founded on a philosophy of contextual minimalism, YODEZEEN approaches each project as a dialogue between the built environment and its natural surroundings. For LUNA, the studio drew inspiration from Bali's volcanic geology, its tradition of open-air living, and the rhythmic presence of the Indian Ocean visible from every residence. The result is a collection of homes that feel simultaneously grounded in their tropical setting and refined in their execution — spaces where raw stone meets precision-milled timber, and where the boundary between interior comfort and exterior landscape is intentionally blurred.
The design of LUNA Residences begins with the land itself. Before a single line was drawn, the YODEZEEN team spent months studying the site's topography, prevailing winds, solar orientation, and existing vegetation. The master plan preserves mature trees and natural land contours, positioning each residence to capture optimal ocean views without requiring destructive grading. Roofs follow the natural slope of the terrain, and exterior walls use pigmented plaster that echoes the warm tones of Balinese laterite stone. This approach — letting the site dictate the architecture rather than imposing form onto landscape — is central to YODEZEEN's practice and gives LUNA its distinctive sense of belonging. The residences do not sit on the land; they grow from it.
Inside each residence, YODEZEEN has created interiors that function as private sanctuaries. Warm wood paneling lines the walls of bedrooms and living areas, absorbing sound and creating a tactile warmth that complements the cool stone floors. Full blackout systems in sleeping quarters ensure rest regardless of the tropical sunrise, while floor-to-ceiling glass in living areas frames the ocean, river, or jungle as an ever-changing mural. Furniture is custom-designed or sourced from European ateliers, selected for proportion and durability in tropical conditions. Every residence includes a private terrace — not as an afterthought, but as a primary living space that extends the interior footprint into the open air. The result is a home that feels intimate and protective indoors, expansive and connected outdoors.
YODEZEEN's commitment to sustainability at LUNA extends beyond energy-efficient design. The studio prioritised locally sourced materials — Balinese stone, Indonesian hardwoods, and artisanal ceramics — reducing the carbon footprint of construction while supporting regional craftsmen. Natural ventilation pathways reduce the need for mechanical cooling, and rainwater harvesting systems irrigate the landscaped gardens. The pigmented plaster finishes age naturally over time, developing a patina that deepens the connection between the architecture and its environment. This approach reflects a broader philosophy: that luxury and sustainability are not opposing forces but complementary values, and that the most enduring architecture is the kind that grows more beautiful as it interacts with the elements.

Natural Light & Cross-Ventilation
Floor-to-ceiling glass walls and strategically placed openings allow ocean breezes to flow through every residence, reducing reliance on air conditioning while framing the surrounding landscape as living artwork.
Organic Material Palette
Warm wood paneling, natural stone, and textured plaster create a tactile environment that ages gracefully. Materials were selected for their ability to connect interior spaces to the tropical setting.
Seamless Indoor-Outdoor Living
Private terraces extend each residence beyond its walls, dissolving the boundary between interior and landscape. Outdoor furniture, plunge pools, and gardens are treated as natural extensions of the living space.
Privacy & Tranquillity
Each residence is oriented to maximise privacy and ocean views while minimising overlook from neighbouring units. Acoustic design and layered landscaping ensure a sense of seclusion within a vibrant community.
